SANTA ANA, California — Yoeen Sauseda, 22, of Riverside was killed and three others were seriously injured Sunday morning after a single-vehicle rollover crash on the southbound State Route 55 freeway just north of Dyer Road, according to a press release issued by the Orange County Coroner’s Department.
Sauseda was allegedly not wearing her seat belt and was ejected from the backseat behind Erasmo Molina, 69, the driver of the Ford Bronco that crashed. Armando Angeles, 27, and Vanesa Sauseda, 18, as well as Molina were all wearing seat belts. However, the severity of the crash caused them to suffer serious injuries. The three car accident victims were transported to UCI Medical Center, according to an Orange County Register report.
Police are investigating the crash and noted that the cause may have been tread separation on the tires, the Register reported. Sauseda was transported by paramedics to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana where she died at 8:47 a.m., just hours after the 5:31 a.m. crash, the report said.
“Sadly something as simple as routine maintenance can save lives, but those who put it off place their passengers at risk on our roadways,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm. “Those who are injured or killed in such a vehicle should hold the driver’s insurance company liable for their medical bills, lost wages or other needs.”
Orange County Car Accident Statistics
Orange County reported 141 fatal crashes and 13,373 injuries in 2009 collisions, according to the California Statewide Integrated Traffic Report. In California, fatal traffic accidents were down 12% to 2,715 deaths in 2010 compared to 3,090 killed in 2009, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Additionally, national statistics show that traffic fatalities have declined in recent years across the United States, down roughly 3% to 32,885 deaths in 2010 compared to 33,883 killed in 2009.
Police investigate every car accident involving a death to determine the cause of a crash, Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm explains. The investigation will seek to find out if any drivers involved were under the influence of alcohol, distracted or if there were any circumstances that may have led to the crash that were illegal or reckless.
“Families of victims killed in car accidents not only have to cope with the loss of a loved one, but later their lives may be forever changed due to the loss of income and other costs,” said Seegmiller.
