LAKE FOREST, California – Steven David Muller, 29, of Lake Forest was killed Wednesday afternoon after the motorcyclist was struck by a car at Peachwood Street and Palmwood Drive, according to a press release by the Orange County Sheriff Coroner Department and news reports.

According to the Orange County Register, the driver of a 2010 Acura made a left-hand turn in front of the motorcyclist as he was driving his bike eastbound on Peachwood Drive.  Other news reports indicated the motorcyclist was riding behind a pickup truck and the driver allegedly did not see him as he pulled out into the intersection.

Muller reportedly attempted to avoid the collision and applied his brakes, but the bike slide out from under him and into the left driver’s side of the car. Muller was then ejected into the roadway, the Register said. Police told reporters that the driver of the Acura was cooperative and as of press time had not been cited or arrested.

Emergency workers including Orange County firefighters treated the man at the scene and immediately transported him to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo where he later died shortly after the crash at 12:48 p.m.

The Lake Forest motorcycle crash is under investigation by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s major accident reconstruction team.

Liability Issues in Lake Forest Motorcycle Accidents

Under California law, drivers are expected to exercise a certain standard of care when they are on our roadways and when they fall below that standard they can be deemed negligent. Motorists who fail to yield the right of way to a motorcycle rider would be considered negligent under the law. However, if the motorist responsible for the crash ran a red light or a stop sign and struck the motorcyclist his actions would be deemed intentional as there exists a probability that injury to another could result from this action.

Christian Dasilva, 40, Dies In Motorcycle Accident With Lexus

Friday, July 20th, 2012

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California—Christian Dasilva, a 40-year-old motorcyclist, died Monday afternoon after colliding with a Lexus, police said.

According to an Orange County Register article, on Monday, July 16th, Dasilva was riding a 2011 Triumph Bonneville T100 and was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Dasilva was headed westbound on Hamilton Avenue when he collided with a Lexus sedan.  The driver of the Lexus remained at the scene to talk to police who made no arrests or citations.

Dasilva was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Register.

The cause of the collision is under investigation. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Huntington Beach traffic investigators at 714-536-5666.

“As a rider myself, my heart goes out to the Dasilva family,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcyclist fatalities increased slightly in 2010 to 4,502 accounting for 14 percent of total fatalities for the year. The NHTSA also reports that motorcyclists are 25 times more likely to die in a motor vehicle crash and 5 times more likely to be injured.

NHTSA estimates that helmets saved the lives of 1,483 motorcyclists in 2009. An additional 732 lives could have been saved if all motorcyclists had worn helmets.

Leisure World Drunk Driver Arraignment In Death of Robert Dillon

Friday, July 20th, 2012

SANTA ANA, California—Dale Snyder Quinn, a 75-year-old woman accused of having a blood alcohol content level of .22 percent, will be arraigned Friday morning for crashing her car into an 86-year-old man and killing him at an intersection inside Leisure World in Seal Beach.

According to the Orange County District Attorneys’ office, Quinn is accused of failing to stop at an intersection inside the Leisure World complex at approximately 5:40 p.m. on May 20, 2012. The defendant ignored three marked stop signs and two pedestrian-crossing signs and slammed into 86-year-old Robert Dillon who was crossing the street on his battery-operated scooter, said a spokesperson from the D.A.’s office.

Dillon was thrown from his scooter on impact and was transported to a hospital where he died eight days later from his injuries, said a D.A.’s  office spokesperson. Quinn was found sitting in her car and police say she displayed signs of intoxication including slurred speech, watery eyes and emitting an odor of alcohol.

Dale is charged with one felony count of vehicular manslaughter by lawful act that might cause death with gross negligence while intoxicated and if convicted, the D.A.’s office says she faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in state prison.

“There is no excuse for driving under the influence,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law firm. “Those who drive drunk and endanger the lives of others need to be held accountable for the damage and destruction they cause.”

Nationwide there were 10,228 deaths attributed to alcohol impaired driving in 2010 and while the numbers are staggering, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reports that deaths from drunk drivers were actually down nearly 5 percent in 2010 compared to 2009.

Passenger Daniel Iglesias, 19, Dies In Two Car Collision In Santa Ana

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

SANTA ANA, CA  – Authorities have identified a male passenger that perished in a two car collision as 19 year old Daniel Iglesias.

On Saturday, July 14th,  Daniel was traveling as a passenger in a Pontiac, when, on McFadden Avenue in Santa Ana, the car collided with a full sized SUV.  The car he was in was attempting to avoid hitting another vehicle, a white minivan, and, as such, caused another collision, according to Santa Ana police commander Larry Coleman.

The SUV went through side of the car that Iglesias was on.  He was transported to a local area hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:02 pm.  The driver of the Pontiac, and one passenger in the SUV were transported to hospitals as well.  The other occupants of the SUV remained at the scene.

Commander Larry Coleman indicated that witnesses to the scene said that the minivan that the Pontiac was attempting to avoid was traveling northbound on Pacific Avenue.  Pacific Avenue dead ends McFadden.  The Pontiac was traveling westbound, and avoided hitting the minivan.  However, swerving caused the car to veer in the opposite traffic lane in a multi lane roadway, eventually being struck by the driver of the SUV.

Police are looking to communicate with the driver of the white minivan.  Anyone with information about this accident, please call the Santa Ana Police Department at 714-245-8665.
