UPDATE: Coroner Identifies Oliver Martinez-Iriarte as Passenger Killed in Crash

SANTA ANA, California (Nov. 21, 2013) – Four people were critically injured and a 23-year-old man is dead early Thursday morning after a driver in a blue compact car crashed into a traffic light pole in the 900 block of North Fairview Street, according to Santa Ana Police.
About 1:10 a.m., police say the 20-year-old driver was heading southbound on Fairview when they lost control of the vehicle and slid on the rain-soaked roadway. The young man who died was a passenger in the vehicle in the back seat where the car struck the pole.

Police believe speed and wet road conditions were a factor in the collision and will investigate whether alcohol played a role as well. Four people were hospitalized including the driver with critical injuries, police said.

Indeed, the roadways are especially slippery when it rains following a long dry spell as oil drippings have not been washed off the roadway for some time, said Attorney West Seegmiller.

“This is a tragedy for the family and friends of the person who was killed in this accident,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “Hopefully those who were injured in this accident are able to fully recover from their injuries.”

Wednesday, November 13th, 2013

SANTA ANA, California (Nov. 13, 2013) — The drivers of six vehicles and a big rig truck collided early Wednesday morning in a crash on the southbound State Route 55 freeway just south of the Interstate 5 Freeway, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.

About 5:45 a.m., CHP officials reported as many as seven vehicles were involved in a traffic accident in the No. 1 lane of the southbound 55 freeway just north of McFadden Avenue. The crash involved the drivers of a white Honda or Toyota Corolla, an SUV, s tan Nissan, a black 2006 Scion XB, a Nissan Altima sedan and a silver Honda Element, the report said.

The white sedan was described as “blacked out” with the rear end of the car smashed all the way to the driver’s seat, the report said.

The silver Honda Element was moved to the right-hand shoulder of the road and its female driver appeared to be extremely shaken up, but police say she declined medical help. A woman who was driving the Scion was not injured.

Paramedics responded to the collision, but there were no details about those injured in the crash.

“Those injured in a multi-vehicle collision such as this one may need medical help, but they may not realize it for several hours or even the following day when soft-tissue injuries present themselves,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “If you believe you have an injury it’s important to seek medical attention and contact a personal injury lawyer to ensure you are compensated for all your financial losses.”

Rollover Injury Car Crash on the SR-73 Freeway at Campus Drive in Newport Beach

Monday, August 19th, 2013

Orange County rollover crash on southbound 73 at Campus Drive August 19, 2013

NEWPORT BEACH, California (August 19, 2013) – The driver of a white pickup truck was injured Monday morning in a rollover crash after possibly colliding with another driver on the southbound State Route 73 freeway just after the Campus Drive exit, according to a dispatch by the California Highway Patrol.

About 6:30 a.m., emergency workers responded to the crash and found the white Ford Ranger pickup truck had rolled over, came to rest on its wheels up against the fence on the shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle had extensive front-end damage. Paramedics transported the injured man to a nearby medical facility, according to a witness. It was unclear from the report whether a Honda Civic was involved or not.

“This same location has had numerous car crashes,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, whose offices are about a mile from the scene of the crash. “Drivers are often exiting and merging simultaneously.”

Indeed, police investigate most injury crashes to determine liability including taking measurements, photographing the accident scene, speaking with anyone involved in the accident as well as witnesses and create a police report. Depending on their findings, one of the drivers may be cited for reckless driving, speeding or some other traffic violation.

COSTA MESA: Motorcyclist Chad de Lorm, 40, of Huntington Beach Killed After Crash with Car on Adams Aveune

Monday, August 5th, 2013

COSTA MESA, California (August 5, 2013) — Chad de Lorm, 40, of Huntington Beach was killed Sunday afternoon when the driver of a Honda Civic turned left in front of him into a shopping center on Adams Avenue just east of Royal Palm Drive near the Souplantation restaurant, according to a report by the Orange County Coroner and CBS News.

Just minutes before 4 p.m., Mr. de Lorm was riding his 2011 Kawasaki ZX motorcycle eastbound on Adams Avenue in the No. 2 lane at the same time Sandra Foley, 62, of Costa Mesa was traveling westbound on the same street in a 2005 Honda Civic, according to the coroner and CBS News.

Mr. De Lorm was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, the coroner said.

The fatal motorcycle crash is under investigation by the Costa Mesa Police Department.

“Motorcyclists are especially vulnerable to injury or death because drivers often pull in front of them to make a left-hand turn and they are unable to stop,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “This motorcyclist appeared to have the right-of-way when the driver pulled in front of him and sadly he had no chance of avoiding the crash.”
