EL CAJON, California (Jan. 19, 2013) — Pablo Vallejo Medina, 41, of Mexicali, Mexico was killed early Saturday morning after he was struck by a suspected drunk driver while attending to his disabled van on the eastbound lanes of the Interstate Route 8 at Dunbar Lane, according to a report by the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office.

About 4:30 a.m., Medina and his wife were driving home in their van on the I-8 when they began to have car trouble and s01-he put on the flashers and pulled the vehicle over to the side of the roadway, the report said. Medina stepped out of the van to see what was wrong with the vehicle when he was struck by a suspected drunk driver in a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck.

The impact of the crash threw Medina onto the hood of the vehicle and he fell several yards away into the center divider of the roadway, the report said.

Paramedics were called to the scene of the traffic accident, but Medina was pronounced dead upon their arrival due to traumatic injuries sustained in the crash.
