MENIFEE, California – Passengers Philip Molitor and Jonathon LaRue were both killed Tuesday afternoon and a 21-year-old woman suffered major injuries after she allegedly lost control of her 1993 Mercedes sedan and veered off the Interstate 215 Freeway into a ditch on the shoulder, according to a CAL Fire/Riverside Fire Department report and one by the Press Enterprise.
Molitor, 55, and LaRue, 19, both of Murrieta were both passengers in the sedan, according to the Riverside County Sheriff Department’s coroner report.
The crash, which took place about noon near the McCall Boulevard off ramp, was especially deadly because police say none of the occupants of the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.
Paramedics arrived at the scene of the solo rollover crash and found two of the passengers dead and transported the injured woman to a local hospital for treatment about 12:12 p.m. The woman’s name has not been released.
California Highway Patrol issued a Sig Alert at Newport Road due to a vehicle blocking the right lane.
Indeed, a police investigation will ultimately recreate what may have happened the victims of this crash. Although initial reports indicate the victims were not wearing seatbelts, further investigation may reveal the seatbelts were faulty or another scenario lead to their deaths.
“It’s important that police do not jump to conclusions about what may have happened to cause this accident or the deaths in this crash until a complete investigation has been conducted,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, founder of the Seegmiller Law Firm in Southern California.
