TEMECULA, California (May 7, 2013) — SharinaThomason, 27, of Temecula was killed Monday afternoon after her car was struck by the driver of a pickup truck who allegedly ran a red traffic light at the intersection of Rancho California Road and Town Center, according to a press release issued by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner Department.
About 2:52 p.m., witnesses told police that a 66-year-old Menifee man was traveling westbound on Rancho California when he reportedly drove through a red light and crashed into Thomason’s Pontiac sedan and a Saturn, My Valley News reported. Thomason was driving out of a nearby Target shopping center attempting to make a left-hand turn at the time of the impact. The pickup truck subsequently crashed into a Saturn and injured one of two women in the vehicle as well as himself.
Emergency workers from the Riverside County Fire Department had to cut open Thomason’s vehicle to free her from the wreckage, fire officials said. Paramedics transported Thomason by ambulance to Rancho Springs Medical Center where she later died of her injuries at 3:25 p.m., the coroner report said. The pickup truck driver and the Saturn driver were both hospitalized for minor to moderate injuries sustained in the crash.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash and reportedly have detained the pickup truck driver pending the outcome of their investigation.
