Tuesday, May 7th, 2013

TEMECULA, California (May 7, 2013) — SharinaThomason, 27, of Temecula was killed Monday afternoon after her car was struck by the driver of a pickup truck who allegedly ran a red traffic light at the intersection of Rancho California Road and Town Center, according to a press release issued by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner Department.

About 2:52 p.m., witnesses told police that a 66-year-old Menifee man was traveling westbound on Rancho California when he reportedly drove through a red light and crashed into Thomason’s Pontiac sedan and a Saturn, My Valley News reported. Thomason was driving out of a nearby Target shopping center attempting to make a left-hand turn at the time of the impact. The pickup truck subsequently crashed into a Saturn and injured one of two women in the vehicle as well as himself.

Emergency workers from the Riverside County Fire Department had to cut open Thomason’s vehicle to free her from the wreckage, fire officials said. Paramedics transported Thomason by ambulance to Rancho Springs Medical Center where she later died of her injuries at 3:25 p.m., the coroner report said. The pickup truck driver and the Saturn driver were both hospitalized for minor to moderate injuries sustained in the crash.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash and reportedly have detained the pickup truck driver pending the outcome of their investigation.

Eight Injured After Stolen Big Rig Truck Crashes with 5 Cars on I-15 Freeway

Monday, April 8th, 2013

TEMECULA, California (April 8, 2013) – Eight people suffered injuries ranging from minor to series Saturday night after a 19-year-old Tennessee man stole a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer truck loaded with strawberries and went on a joy ride on the Interstate 15 freeway, according to an article by the Murrietta Patch.

The truck crashed into five vehicles before overturning and blocking the roadway, the report said.

According to the online newspaper, Jerimiah Hartline, 19, of Tennessee was allegedly in an “altered state” at the time of the truck theft and told California Highway Patrol officers that he was being “chased by zombies” as he drove the stolen big rig truck.

Hartline stole the 3-axle tractor trailer truck from the I-15 Rainbow Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Facility and then drove onto the I-15 freeway where he set off a series of crashes involving other drivers.

The series of crashes began when Hartline entered the northbound side of the I-15 freeway and veered left from the No. 4 lane into a 2001 Toyota Tacoma driven by Kyle Schlosser, 22, of San Jacinto.

Kyle Schlosser sustained moderate injuries and his passenger Sarah Small, 19, of Hemet was seriously injured.

After colliding with the Toyota, the out-of-control truck crashed into two more cars: A 2006 Toyota 4Runner and injured Anne Lennala, 56, of Temecula and a 2006 Mercedes Benz driven by Timothy Varga, 39, of Temecula.

The impact resulted in moderate injuries to Lennala who was taken by ambulance to the Inland Valley Medical Center and minor injuries to Varga, the report said.

Hartline continued to drive the big rig truck on the freeway until he crashed for a third time. The truck struck a 2009 Ford Taurus moderately injuring the driver Kristine Thrower, 42, and her passenger Rosanna O’Gorman, 42, both of Las Vegas, Nevada. The two Las Vegas women were transported to Inland Valley Medical Center for treatment.

The truck also hit a 2000 Honda Accord and its driver Dio Nomany, 49, of Lompoc suffered minor injuries in the crash.

At this point, the vehicle flipped over onto its side, spilling out its load of strawberries into the roadway and was blocking all lanes of the freeway near Temecula Parkway. Hartline attempted to flee the accident scene and got out of the stolen truck and tried to get into a white van, but the driver kicked him out of his vehicle.

Police apprehended Hartline and paramedics transported him to Rancho Springs Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries, but later he was taken by police to Southwest Detention Center where he was booked on several charges for stealing the vehicle.
