NORCO, California (May 28, 2013) – A 23-year-old Riverside man was killed and two people injured early Monday morning after a suspect in a stolen vehicle fled a police enforcement stop at the intersection of Pedley Avenue and 6th Street, according to a press release issued by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner Department.
Just after 6 a.m., the Norco Police Department was conducting an enforcement stop searching for a stolen vehicle. The 23-year-old suspect came upon the police barricade and when the deputy approached he attempted to flee and crashed the vehicle. Police were not in pursuit at the time of the crash. Two others suffered moderate injuries and were transported by ambulance to nearby hospital for treatment, according to a report by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner Department.
The fatal crash is under investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the Norco Police Department and the California Highway Patrol’s Riverside station. The California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is assisting in the investigation with their expertise in the field of collision reconstruction.
