Woman Hospitalized After Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Marshall Street in Riverside

Monday, April 8th, 2013

RIVERSIDE, California (April 8, 2013) – A female pedestrian was injured Monday morning after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver on Marshall Street at Ellis Avenue, according to a dispatch report issued by the California Highway Patrol.

About 6:30 a.m., the CHP was called to the Riverside pedestrian accident and found the woman lying down in the street bleeding, the report said. The driver had fled the scene of the pedestrian accident. Paramedics were called to the scene of the accident and transported the victim by ambulance to Riverside County Regional Medical Center for treatment of undisclosed injuries suffered in the crash.

“Drivers who flee the scene of an injury accident are not only cowards, but criminals under California law,” said Attorney West Seegmiller.

Under California Vehicle Code Section 21950 (a) a driver must yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within any marked crosswalk or within any unmarked crosswalk at an intersection, said Attorney West Seegmiller, a California and Las Vegas wrongful death attorney. Also, drivers are required to slow down when a pedestrian is in the roadway and be alert for any crossings.

“There are exceptions in the law, however, such as pedestrians are required to watch out for their own safety,” Seemiller said. “This means they cannot suddenly leave a curb and walk or run into the path of a vehicle. Also, pedestrians should not unnecessarily stop or delay traffic while in a marked or unmarked crosswalk.”

However, if a pedestrian does step into the roadway suddenly the driver must still make every effort to safely stop or avoid hitting them whether it’s a marked or unmarked crosswalk, Seegmiller said.

Tuesday, February 5th, 2013

RIVERSIDE, California (Feb. 4, 2013) –  Four people were hit by a car — a toddler was killed and another toddler was hospitalized – on Monday night after a car struck them as they attempted to cross Indiana Avenue in front of MM Liquor & Market, according to a story in the Press Enterprise.

Just before 5 p.m., police say a woman, a 16-year-old girl and two toddlers had just left the store’s parking lot and were crossing the street midblock in the 10500 block of Indiana Avenue when a vehicle traveling westbound struck the group. The toddler who survived the crash was taken by ambulance to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, the Press Enterprise reported. The teenager is expected to survive her injuries. The woman was hospitalized at Riverside County Medical Center in Moreno Valley.
