MORENO VALLEY, California (Feb. 18, 2013) – A 45-year-old man suffered major injuries in a head-on crash on Monday night when another driver turned the wrong way onto Old 215 Frontage Road and struck him, according to a press release issued by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Just before 7 p.m. on President’s Day, the driver of a black Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling on Cottonwood Avenue when he made a turn into opposing traffic onto the Old 215 Frontage Road. The driver struck a Toyota whose driver was critically injured in the car crash.
Paramedics responded to the crash scene and transported the driver of the Toyota by ambulance to a local hospital in critical condition.
A 23-month-old toddler was restrained in his car seat in the backseat of the Chevrolet pickup truck, but police say he was not harmed in the crash. The wrong-way driver complained of pain, but the report did not indicate whether he was hospitalized.
The intersection was closed for several hours while the Moreno Valley Police Department’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team was investigating the crash to determine its cause.
Police are asking witnesses to contact them at 951-486-6900.
