2-year-old Girl, Two Adults Killed, Four Injured at Red Light Car Crash — file photo

Driver Ran Red Light, Crashes into Two Motorists Killing 3 People, Injuring 4 Others

UPDATE: Shawn Michael Scott, 33, of Fontana, and Helen Terry Amaya, 33, of El Monte Identified as Two Adults Killed in Crash

FONTANA, California (Oct. 22, 2013) –  Three people are dead including a 2-year-old girl after a 3-vehicle crash Monday morning at the intersection of Citrus Avenue and Foothill Boulevard, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.

About 8:38 p.m., witnesses told police that the driver of an SUV sped through a red light, struck the driver of a blue truck and a third vehicle that were stopped at the traffic light.

The 2-year-old girl and a man who were in the third vehicle died at the scene of the crash. A 33-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where she later died of major injuries sustained in the crash at 10:14 p.m., the coroner said. Four others were injured in the crash, but details were not disclosed.

The Fontana Police Department is investigating the collision.

“The driver who caused this fatal crash must be held accountable for their actions,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “These people did not deserve to lose their lives in this way because a driver was in a hurry to make the light or any other reason.”

Police will likely file criminal charges against the driver who ran the red light and caused the crash. The families of the victims killed in this crash and those injured, may file a civil lawsuit against the driver as well.

“There are always going to be reckless drivers on our roadways, however, the victims of these crashes should not have to suffer or struggle to pick up the pieces after such an incident,” Seegmiller said.

VICTORVILLE: Alyssa Florez, 18, Killed, Man, 23, Injured in Pedestrian Accident on Palmdale Road

Victorville Teenager Killed, Man 23, Injured in Pedestrian Accident

Driver Calls 911 for Police After Pedestrian Accident on Palmdale Road

VICTORVILLE, California (Sept. 19, 2013) –  Alyssa Florez, 18, of Victorville was killed Tuesday night after being struck by a driver while crossing Palmdale Road, just east of State Highway 395, according to a press release by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.

About 8:16 p.m., Florez and her friend Michael Maldonado, 23, also from Victorville, were attempting to walk across the roadway when the driver of an eastbound red Honda Accord struck them. The driver, Robert Gay, 63, of Hesperia, pulled over and called 9-1-1 for police and paramedics.

Florez was taken by ambulance to Victor Valley Global Medical Center where she later died at approximately 9:22 p.m., the report said. Maldonado was also hospitalized with trauma injuries

The San Bernardino County Sheriff Department is investigating the incident to determine liability for the crash, however, drugs and alcohol were not a factor. In cases such as this one, a team of experts will go over measurements, evidence and interview witnesses to recreate what happened. The Victorville Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is assigned this task and is asking for anyone with information about the collision to call Deputy Troy Mooradian at 760-955-3128.

“Police will look into whether this driver may have been speeding at the time of the crash,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “If a driver is speeding, pedestrians can misjudge how much time they have to cross the roadway based on the posted speed limits. Lighting at this location may also have been a factor.”

Friday, June 14th, 2013

MONTCLAIR, California (June 14, 2013) – Brendan Allen Adams, 19, of Pomona was killed late Thursday afternoon when a Metrolink commuter train struck his bicycle as he rode along N. Benson Avenue, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner.

About 5 p.m., Adams was riding his bicycle southbound on N. Benson Avenue just north of E. Arrow Highway. He was struck by a westbound train as he attempted to cross the railroad tracks.

Emergency workers pronounced Adams dead at the scene of the bicycle accident.

The Montclair Police Department is investigating the train crash to determine why the accident happened.

“Sadly, there are no words that can comfort this young man’s family and friends as they cope with such a terrible loss,” Attorney West Seegmiller said.  “The thoughts and prayers of our staff are with them as they try to piece together what happened and come to terms with his death. Police need to investigate whether there was any  failure at the crossing to alert pedestrians or motorists to an oncoming train.”

BARSTOW FATAL CRASH: Marlene Donahue, 81, of Murphys Killed in Rollover Accident

Friday, May 17th, 2013

BARSTOW, California (May 17, 2013) – Marlene Donahue, 81, was killed Thursday afternoon in a rollover car crash on the westbound Interstate 40 freeway just west of mile marker 44.5, according to a press release issued by the San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner Department.

About 3:20 p.m., CHP officers responded to a 911 call about the traffic collision involving a single vehicle that had veered off the highway and overturned. Donahue was the right front seat passenger in the 2007 Lexus RX350 and was critically injured in the crash. Paramedics transported Donahue by Mercy Air ambulance to Loma Linda University Medical Center where she died more than an hour later at 5:22 p.m.

The CHP is investigating the crash to determine what exactly happened.

Donahue is a retired teacher who lived in Murphys, California, a small town of about 2,200 people in Calaveras County near San Francisco, California.

“Most drivers carry car insurance not only because it is required under California law, but also because they want anyone who is injured in their vehicle to be taken care of in the event they are injured or killed,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “Insurance companies, in turn, do not want injured victims to hire an attorney because studies have shown that victims represented by a lawyer recover 3.5 times more than those who deal directly with an insurance adjuster.”
