Jason Hansen, 42, Dies at Scene of Accident Involving Driver on Miramar Road

SAN DIEGO, California (Sept. 17, 2013) – Motorcyclist Jason Lee Hansen, 42, of San Diego was killed Friday, Sept. 13  when another motorist cut into his lane in the 8400 block of Miramar Road, according to a press release by the San Diego Medical Examiner’s Office.

About 2:24 p.m., Hansen was driving his Harley Davidson on Miramar Road when the driver of a Chevrolet ST pickup truck allegedly crossed into the No. 1 lane and cut off Hansen. The motorcycle rider was forced to lock down his breaks and the bike fell over in the roadway. Hansen died at the scene of the motorcycle accident and witnesses called 9-1-1 for police and paramedics who pronounced him dead upon their arrival.

“As a motorcycle rider myself, I know firsthand the dangers of riding on our busy roads,” said Attorney West Seegmiller. “Indeed, my prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Hansen as they are now coping with his sudden loss and trying to piece together what happened.”

Indeed, the findings by police will indicate whether his family has grounds for a wrongful death claim against the driver.

“Motorcyclists are at risk of injury or death when they share the road with motorists,” Seegmiller said. “A negligent driver can be held liable. Survivors may ask an attorney to file a claim for compensation to pay their losses including medical bills, funeral costs and loss of companionship.”
