Bulgarian Woman Killed in Bicycle Accident on Mission Bay Drive in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, California (Sept. 3, 2013) – A 21-year-old Bulgarian woman was struck and killed Sunday morning when her bicycle was struck from behind while riding 2300 block of W. Mission Bay Drive, according to a report by the San Diego Medical Examiner.
About 3:33 a.m., Stela Hristova, 21, was riding a bicycle on Mission Bay Drive when a motorist reportedly struck her and she was critically injured. Paramedics transported the Bulgarian woman by ambulance to the UC San Diego Medical Center on Arbor Drive where she later died of her injuries at 2:05 p.m. the same day, the report said. The woman was not wearing her helmet at the time of the crash, the report said. Hristova was in San Diego visiting family and is a resident of Bulgaria.
Indeed, the cause of the fatal bicycle accident is under investigation by the San Diego Police Department. The investigation will include pouring over evidence gathered at the scene of the crash, interviewing the driver and any witnesses who may have seen what happened.
“Anytime there is a serious injury or fatality, police want to know who is liable for the injuries and loss to determine whether criminal charges should be filed and also to help victims of the crash if they decide to file a lawsuit,” said Attorney West Seegmiller, an attorney who specializes in wrongful death actions in San Diego County.
