RIVERSIDE, California (June 4, 2013) – A 21-year-old Riverside man was killed Sunday night after he lost control of his motorcycle and was thrown into the eastbound lanes of the State Route 91 freeway, according to a press release issued by the Riverside County Sheriff Coroner Department.

About 10 p.m., the motorcyclist was heading westbound on the SR-91 when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons just west of Madison Street. The man was thrown off the motorcycle and landed in opposing traffic where the driver of a sport utility vehicle struck and killed him, the report said. He died at the scene of the motorcycle accident.

There were 190 deaths and 7,632 injuries reported in motor vehicle crashes in Riverside County in 2010, according to the California Highway Patrol Statewide Integrated Traffic Report.  Additionally, there were 2,520 deaths and 161,094 people injured in traffic collisions in California in 2010, the report said.
