MENTONE, California – Nearly a week after a car accident hospitalized him, Theodore Warner, 88, of Yucaipa died Sunday night at Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff Coroner report.
Warner sustained life-threatening injuries in a crash on June 12 in the 2700 block of Mill Creek Road near Ward Way. He was driving his 1996 Honda eastbound on Millcreek Road when the driver of a 2005 Chrysler suddenly pulled out in front of his vehicle and the two collided.
Paramedics responding to the scene of the crash transported Warner to the Loma Linda hospital where he was cared for until his death at 5:39 p.m. on Sunday.
California Highway Patrol officers are investigating the crash to determine who is at fault. Family of the victim may request a police report once it’s completed.
The crash took place on a rural stretch of California State Route 38 where the posted speed limit is 50 mph, but drivers typically travel much faster as they head back and forth to destinations in Big Bear Valley. Indeed, Mill Creek Road is known for many deadly crashes over the years including a hit and run crash that killed a 13-year-old boy riding a bicycle in 2006.’
“City drivers are often the most dangerous when they hit these rural roadways,” Attorney West Seegmiller said. “Negligent drivers are liable for injuries or death they cause to other motorists and families of victims may consider a lawsuit to prevent something like this happening to anyone else.”
